This romantic comedy takes place inside a street-corner diner in a small Kansas town about thirty miles west of Kansas City. Due to icy road conditions, an inter-state bus is forced to stop for the night. One by one, the bus passengers are introduced, each with their own special life story. Bo Decker is a young ranch-owner from Montana. He has just fallen head-over-heels for a nightclub singer named Cherie. Cherie, on the other hand, is not exactly going along for the ride. The rest of the stranded party are equally colorful and full of true-to-life experiences. A London newspaper wrote: "there is something beguiling about this forlorn slice of Americana, which meditates on the distances between towns and the distances between people, like an Edward Hopper painting with dialogue."
