Two members of Fleetwood Mac have reacted to the suicide death of onetime member Bob Welch.

  • Mick Fleetwood tells Reuters that Welch's action was "incredibly out of character." He calls the singer-guitarist "a very, very profoundly intelligent human being and always in good humor"  as well as "a huge part of our history, which sometimes gets forgotten... Mostly his legacy would be his songwriting abilities that he brought to Fleetwood Mac, which will survive all of us."
  • Stevie Nicks issued a statement praising Welch as "an amazing guitar player -- he was funny, sweet, and he was smart. I'm so very sorry for his family and for the family of Fleetwood Mac. So, so sad."

Welch's relationship with his ex-bandmates was cordial until the early '90s, when he sued over back royalties. That led to his exclusion when the band -- including 1960s member Peter Green -- was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame four years later. --Mike McCann
