Rush: Geddy Shown the Door

Geddy Lee has revealed that before Rush ever recorded their first song, he was fired from the band he helped put together. He says their manager, Ray Danniel, did the dirty work.

Geddy says, "He started directing the band and he just thought I wasn't suitable, for whatever reasons he had. I don't know whether it was the way I looked, or my religious background -- who knew? Anyway, he influenced them and they went along with it, Alex Lifeson and drummer John Rutsey, and I was out. They kicked me out."

Geddy then went on to form a blues band before Rutsey called, apologized and asked him to come back.

Geddy is not the only singer to be fired by a band and hired back. REO Speedwagon showed the door to Kevin Cronin, and, depending who you believe, Van Halen reunited with Sammy Hagar in 2004 after he exited in the mid-'90s. --Sal Cirrincione
