Van Halen: Why the Tour Hiatus

Van Halen
Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen says Van Halen "bit off more than we could chew" when extending their tour into the summer. "This record took a lot out of us. And we went on tour earlier than we wanted to so we could play Madison Square Garden (in March, before a renovation), and that threw the schedule out of whack." He says they plan to be back on the road in November with a tour of Japan and to schedule more dates for next year. He also says they'll "possibly do something special," but he "can't talk about it." There are rumors that they may perform at the Super Bowl, or it could be the festival-style shows David Lee Roth has talked about.

Eddie says his relationship with Roth is just fine. "Dave's the same as he's always been -- funny, witty. [But] sometimes I can only take that in small doses, because he just goes on and on." And Eddie's son Wolfgang adds, "He's like the Energizer Bunny -- wind it up and see what happens." --Sal Cirrincione
