William Sturdivant II, AKA Tower Man, is on the ground and safe. 

Sturdivant got into a  bucket truck with a negotiator a little before 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Sturdivant, who has a history of mental illness, had been on the tower at 27^th and Memorial for a staggering 127 hours. 

That shattered the longest police standoff in Tulsa history.

Days of negotiations finally paid off but not without drama. 

At one point Tuesday afternoon the negotiator tried to pull Sturdivant into the bucket but was fought off.  

Before that Sturdivant had set foot inside the bucket but was never far enough inside it to be lowered to the ground.

Sturdivant appeared very tired from his ordeal on the tower. 

He had not been given any water or food since Friday, the day after he first climbed onto the tower.

Sturdivant was immediately taken to an ambulance once he was on the ground. 

It’s not clear if any charges will be pressed against Sturdivant. 

He could be charged with trespassing but the main concern will be getting him treatment for his mental illness.

Sturdivant has been known for strange behavior including walking to Dallas, TX from Tulsa to visit relatives. 

He had recently been released from prison after serving time on a burglary conviction.
