Tulsa, Oklahoma —
Saturday night's EF-3 tornado in Woodward, Oklahoma killed six, left dozens injured and destroyed millions of dollars in property.
Residents are still in the early stages of recovery and clean-up.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management made a public request for approved items to be sent to Woodward.
When NewsTalk KRMG heard about the need, we began coordinating efforts with sister stations K95.5FM, Mix96 and Star 103 to support the cause, urging listeners to give.
The Mabee Center was packed Tuesday night for an event hosted by Celebrity Attractions and NewsTalk KRMG radio.
Prior to and during the event, listeners of all four Cox Media Group radio stations stopped by in numbers to donate AA & AAA batteries, flashlights, dust masks, leather gloves, trash bags and tarps.
Some even brought folding military-style cots and others donated money.
When the four-hour event concluded, donations filled the back of a Salvation Army van and more than $1,000 was given to the cause.
The Salvation Army has agreed to deliver the items and the cash to Woodward on Wednesday.
It's not too late to give, though.
An Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management representative tells KRMG there is no need for clothing, food, or for volunteers to "self deploy" to volunteer in Woodward.
However, they are still accepting approved donation items:
Financial contributions may also be made to Salvation Army of Woodward (designate "Oklahoma Storms" when making your donation) or the Southern Baptist Relief Fund.
Items may be dropped off at any Salvation Army location, or at the radio stations of Cox Media Group, located at 7136 South Yale, Suite 500, in Tulsa.
Items collected will be given to the Woodward Emergency Management Office at 100 Temple Houston Drive in Woodward.
